While not in your home, the downspouts on your home are vital when it comes to keeping your foundation walls and your basement or crawlspace dry. Because of this, installing downspouts and working with customers to ensure proper downspout maintenance is one of the services that Rogers Basement Waterproofing is happy to offer.

Why downspouts are important

Proper downspouts and other drainage solutions are key in keeping your basement dry. If installed incorrectly or missing altogether, you will end up with excessive amounts of water saturating the soil around your foundation. This will interfere with the soil, lead to the foundation walls deteriorating, can cause cracking, and other issues. Essentially, if you don’t have downspouts done properly, you are almost asking to have moisture problems and foundation issues in your home.

Downspouts cannot be ignored, even though they often are. The damage occurs slowly over time, so homeowners don’t have much sense of alarm. When the problems caused by improper downspout installation (or none at all) are finally noted, it usually is due to major damage that will mean more extensive and more expensive repairs. Installing downspouts at a proper angle and grade is usually a much cheaper choice.

When you have downspouts, and they are installed correctly, they will direct rainwater away from your home. From there, a drainage system should continue to carry water away from the structure. Through downspouts and drainage solutions, water from rain and melting snow should be moved far away from your home so that your basement stays dry and safe, even in the heaviest of rains or biggest thaws.
